Thinking about purchasing Apple TV? Think again.
While it’s nice to have Apple TV (somewhat) integrate with your Apple products, you’re still locked in the “Apple” world. Here are just some of the limitations:
- Incompatible movie formats
- Low-functionality interface
- Movies rented on Apple TV must be watched on Apple TV
- Search box only searches the iTunes Store – not local hard drives
- No support the for automatic control by TV Remote
So, what’s the alternative? Western Digital TV. Here are some of the benefits:
- Play virtually any file format – MKV, AVI, MP4, MPEG-4, MOV and more
- Stream any media stored on USB and your network
- Stream content from countless online sources (e.g. Netflix)
- Use the WDTV Remote app to control the unit with your smartphone.
The biggest reason is file format compatibility. I have yet to find a single video file that WDTV can’t play. I love my WDTV – go get one!
